BAck to Italy for our 12th Raduno for the Lagotto Romagnolo - october 2023
There is no better way for us to continue our education on the breed and to see the best dogs of Italy than to attend the Raduno, which is Italy's National Specialty. This year there were a record 338 Lagotti entered from 19 countries! Certainly a rush to be there and to see all of the beautiful Lagotti!
It was extra special this year because I got to see "our" boy, Multi and AKC CH Frodo!! The most handsome boy that stayed with us in 2019 and sired our beautiful girls, Stevie and Blaise.

A return trip to Italy to see the Lagotto Romagnolo Raduno - Italy's "National Specialty".
I always feel so blessed to return to Italy and to be able to witness their specialty shows which always have over 200 entries. This year it was 240 and Dr Giovanni Morsiani and Gilberto Grandi were reunited again to judge the show, which it has been several years since this took place.
Congratulations to all of the winners and their beautiful Lagotti, there were some very spectacular entries this year! A huge congratulations to the winner - Best of Breed - CH Blixtra Contessa, owned and presented by Lovisa Bjorkman, a very beautiful representation of the breed. And a huge congratulations to the Best of Opposite, the one and only Multi CH Dante delle Gualdarie, owned by Mimmo Bernardi and Orietta Tonelli, bred and presented by Serena Bernardi. Dante is nearly 10 years old and what an honor for a boy of his age to win BOS. He was the Best of Breed at the Raduno in 2013 and he is also the sire to my amazing Grand Champion Dolce Vita Livia, from my "Emperor/Empress" litter.
Always a blessing to spend time with my Italian family and to catch up with friends from all over the world!

A new GRAND CHAMPION!! GCH CH Dolce Vita Taleggio "Jacques"!!
Italy, December 2016
In my quest to always continue to learn as much as possible about the conformation and history of the Lagotto, I met with Dr. Morsiani at his home to discuss all aspects of the Lagotto. I am thankful for his willingness to meet with me and to share his knowledge of this amazing breed.
Dolce Vita Livia is a new GRAND CHAMPION!!
I am so proud of Dolce Vita Justina and Orietta Tonelli. At just 11 months old, thanks to Orietta, she is already a Junior Champion in Italy and in the Republic of San Marino. She has been awarded Best of Breed by Dr. Morsiani, mulitple Best of Breed Junior with several Junior Group placements!
Justina is out of Multi Ch Dante delle Gualdarie and Ch Comes Cordis Orcia CM. She resides in Italy and is owned and loved by Orietta Tonelli. Thank you Orietta for all of Justina's wonderful accomplishements - you two are a special team! |
I am very proud of my girl! She is the highest and only ranked owner handled, bred by girl in the US in the top 10 !! She finished her GCH with multiple BOB and BOS placements as well as TWO Group 4's!

Transporting Cisco's frozen semen to the reproduction vet for an artificial insemination. The crazy things we do as breeders!
Back to Italy again for the Lagotto Raduno in Bagnara!! October 2015
I never take for granted how special it is to return to Italy...and we were blessed to be there again for the Raduno! This year Dr. Giovanni Morsiani and Gilberto Grandi were the judges and yet again it was a wonderful weekend with beautiful dogs.
Pictures coming soon!
CHAMPION Comes Cordis Orcia!!
On Saturday, September 15th, Orcia finished her Championship with a three point major! So proud of our girl for finishing her championship so quickly! This girl is amazing!
Dolce Vita Justina does it again!!! She won another Best of Breed Puppy and was 3rd Best in Show Puppy in Florence Italy at the Raduno for Italian Breeds!! Breed Judge was Dr. Giovanni Mosiani.
Dolce Vita Justina get a Best of Breed Puppy and then a 2nd Best in Show Puppy at the Raduno for Italian Breeds in Italy!!
We just received the news that on July 19th, 6 month (and one day) old Dolce Vita Justina came away with amazing results from her show in Volta Mantovana, Italy for the Raduno of the Italian Breeds. She was Best of Breed Puppy and then went on to win 2nd Best in Show Puppy!!!!! I am so honored and grateful to Orietta and Mimmo for giving her such a wonderful, loving home and for presenting her so beautifully in Italy!
In June 2015 we traveled to Milan Italy to attend the World Dog Show
What an amazing time we had! We got to watch Dr. Morsiani judge 150 Lagotti at the World Dog Show in Milan. One of the most amazing parts about our trip was to be able to watch little Dolce Vita Justina, now owned by Orietta Tonelli and Mimmo Bernardi, compete in the Minor Puppy Class at the World Dog Show at only 4 months old. The day couldn't have been any sweeter as we watched her win her class to become Best Minor Puppy Female!! Then we watched as her sire, Multi Ch. Dante delle Gualdarie won Best of Breed over 150 Laotti entered!! He is such an amazing boy and I am proud to have him as the sire to my last litter.
The photo to the left is me with Dante representing the breed at the Lagotto booth at the World Dog Show. It was such an honor!

In December, we returned to Italy for our second trip in 2014!
This must have been my lucky year as Mike and I were blessed to be able to visit Italy two times this year to spend time with some awesome Lagotti and wonderful friends!
I was able to knock something off of my bucket list too and I am so grateful to my friend, Nicola, for taking me out in the hills of Umbria for my very first Italian truffle hunt. We had a very successful day with three amazing Lagotti that were able to find us several white truffles. Needless to say, we thought we died and went to heaven when we dined on ravioli with white truffle!

Another NE Raduno and another success!!
On Saturday, November 8th, I hosted the club's annual NE Raduno. It was our largest turnout yet with 61 people and 30 Lagotti in attendance! We had a wonderful time working our dogs in a nose work session and also had an agility instructor introduce all of the dogs and owners to some of the obstacles in an agility trial. So much fun! Thank you to all who attend because without you we wouldn't have this hugely successful event!
We went to Italy and attended the Raduno - the annual Lagotto Specialty September 26 & 27, 2014.
This event is always so special for me to attend. Here I am able to see so many beautiful Lagotti, from all over the world, in one place. This year was extra special because I got to watch my friend, Serena Bernardi, who is only one of four specialist judges approved to judge the Lagotti, judge this important event. The second judge for the day was the President of FCI, Raphael de Santiago, and again, it was a wonderful opportunity to watch him judge.
Here I am with Dr. Morsiani, Mr. Santiago's friend, (me), Raphael, Serena, and Mrs. Morsiani.

Results are in from the University of Helsinki
We have just received our results back from the University of Helsinki for our Lysosomal Storage Disease. I am so happy for my dogs and the breed as they have all come back as NORMAL!!
Comes Cordis Orcia - Normal
Comes Cordis Kaprice "Luna" - Normal
Sanu' (Morara) - Normal
Aramis (d'Amelj) - Normal
Kan Trace Hot Kiss "Trevi" - Normal
This test is so important to us, as it should be to all breeders! The Lysosomal Storage Disease is a devastating and life-ending disease that causes much suffering and can be prevented now that the University of Helsinki has identified the DNA marker for this disease. ALL BREEDERS must now test for this in order to prevent any more Lagotti being afflicted by this disease!!

Comes Cordis Orcia finishes her Certificate of Merit!
November, 16th, 2013
Comes Cordis Orcia has finished her AKC Certificate of Merit. For those not familiar with this title, being that the Lagotto is in the AKC Miscellaneous class and has not received full recognition, we are not able to obtain a "Champion" title, but rather a Certificate of Merit. It is still necessary to be awarded 15 points to achieve this title, the same number of points required to finish an AKC Championship title. I am so proud of my happy girl that never stops wagging her tail!!
On Saturday, September 28th, we traveled to the Javits Center in New York City to represent the Lagotto for the AKC's Meet the Breeds. Orcia was a champ through thousands of people coming by to get their hands into her beautiful curls.
Here she is getting some lovin' from twins!
And, thanks to all of the other volunteers there with their Lagotti too! It was a great group!
Puppies are here!
Early Easter morning we were blessed with five healthy puppies. We have 3 girls and 2 boys and I believe they will all be roan, just like their mother and father. Please visit our puppy page for more information.
A Nose Work Clinic is coming! Saturday and Sunday, May 25th and 26th, 2013.
Christine Stenner and I have arranged for Gudrun Gentili to come all the way from Frankfurt, Germany to teach us the German style of scent work or target search. This clinic can be the foundation for progressing into search and rescue, tracking, or professional detection work, such as mold, bed bugs, peanut allergy, and of course truffles!!
The Lagotto Romagnolo Northeast Raduno is coming! Save the date... Saturday, May 18th, 2013!
Come celebrate the Lagotto on Saturday, May 18th, in Colmar, PA. At the last raduno we had people come from 7 states - a real dedication to our wonderful Lagotti!! I have planned some fun and informative activities... from a fun match to a nose work clinic given by Gudrun Gentili who is coming all the way from Frankfurt, Germany to teach us the German style of nose work!
Here is the link for all of the information: http://lagottous.com/files/May182013NorthEastRaduno.pdf
I hope to see you all there!
Welcome!! February 2013
We are so pleased to announce the arrival of two very special girls to Dolce Vita Lagotto! After months of planning, they are finally here. More information to follow soon. For now, we would like to introduce Sanu' and Luna!
Orcia passed! February 2013
On Sunday, February 17th, Orcia passed her ORT, odor recognition test!! It is the first leg in a series of titles awarded by the National Association for Canine Scent Work (NACSW). In this test, it was required for her to search twelve boxes for the one that contained the scent of birch. She was flawless! She had three minutes to complete the task but she was done in a matter of seconds. For a split second I thought maybe I should double check and take advantage of the three minutes - perhaps I should get her up and make sure she downs at the same box again before I holler "alert". Once you yell out "alert" to the judges, the test is over. But we have been practicing in the living room and I know how she has been flawless for the past several training sessions, so when she downed I hollered my alert and we passed!! Not only is she beautiful, she is sooo smart too!! They never cease to surprise me and make me proud!
October 2012
In October we were able to travel to Italy to attend the Lagotto Raduno. It was a weekend filled with beautiful dogs and meeting new friends. Being that the Lagotto is so uncommon here in the US, it was such a surreal experience to see over 200 Lagotti all in one place! We were finally able to meet in person many beautiful dogs that are in so many of our pedigrees and meet with their wonderful owners and breeders. So many of the dogs in attendance, I have followed in their breedings and in the show ring and it was so awesome to finally get to see them up close. We chose a perfect year to attend as Gilberto Grandi was judging the males and Dr. Giovanni Morsiani was judging the females. So much to learn from them!!
This is a photo of a painting from Dr. Morsiani's art collection showing a Lagotto.

I am proud to announce I have accepted the position of Director for the Lagotto Club of America. I am thankful and honored for the confidence and trust the Board has placed in me.
My goal while serving will be to protect the Lagotto here in the United States and promote it in line with the standard of the Club Italiano Lagotto.
I also serve on the Marketing Committee and am proud to say I contributed to the very first calendar for the Lagotto Club of America.
The Lagotto Romagnolo will be accepted into AKC's Miscellaneous Class in January 2013.
The Northeast Lagotto Raduno September 27, 2011
On Saturday, September 24th, I hosted the 2nd Northeast Lagotto Raduno. We had 34 people and 14 Lagotti that attended! We had people here from 7 different states - a real dedication to the Lagotto breed! It was such an awesome day filled with great people and wonderful dogs.
We had workshops in nose work, agility and grooming. Lots of free playtime for the dogs to play, and play they DID! It was so amazing to watch all of the dogs that had never met each other before, including in-tact males, interacting together for hours without even a snarl between any two dogs. Even Leigh, our trainer, was impressed by their easy-going temperaments.
I was so excited for the day to come, I knew it would be a great day but it totally exceeded my expectations! I am already looking forward to another gathering.
(The above picture was taken at the end of the day after half of the people left already. I apologize to those that we missed in the group shot.)

My favorite picture from the day... little Giovanni with Trevi. Trevi was not raised with little children, but the breed is generally very loving with all ages.
BEST IN SHOW!! July 28, 2011
On July 9th Orcia won a Best in Show!! It was 92 degrees that day, and I decided the day before to go to the show. I really wasn't expecting much from her because it was such a hot day outside and with her thick coat I thought it would be too much for her. Well as soon as she entered into that showring, her head came up, her tail never stopped wagging and she moved out beautifully and effortlessly. I am so, so proud of our girl!
WELCOME Gleska for Sure!! July 28, 2011
Welcome Brunello! We are so pleased to have this new addition to our home! I searched high and low for a male that would have the qualities that I was looking for and found in this little guy. I was looking to add into our breeding program a male that posessed a line of strong conformation and outgoing personalities, and yet was not heavily represented here in the US. His breeder, Camilla Backman of Gleska, is producing consistent conformation through her lines; I was looking for a certain conformation type and at only 4 1/2 months old he is developing just as I had hoped. He comes from lines that are consistently winning throughout Europe.
